This position combines sector-specific English language instruction with settlement and resource coordination to help participants build the language, confidence, and stability they need to succeed in training, transition into employment, and maintain early job retention. The role also includes substitute instructional coverage within REDI and participation in OFE’s facilitator pool for employment development workshops.

About the Role

This is a participant-centered role that strengthens both workplace language readiness and practical stabilization supports. The successful candidate will deliver English language instruction tailored to manufacturing environments, including safety language, workplace communication, teamwork, production processes, and documentation. They will also provide resource coordination to help reduce barriers that may impact attendance, training completion, and early employment success, such as childcare, transportation, housing, and system navigation.

Key Responsibilities

Sector-Specific EAL Instruction

• Develop and deliver English for Manufacturing / English for Work curriculum aligned with workplace language demands and employer needs

• Use participant-friendly teaching strategies, including visual supports, demonstrations, repetition, simplified texts, and workplace scenarios

• Adapt instruction for mixed language, literacy, and digital skill levels

• Integrate practical language tasks such as understanding instructions and signage, reporting issues, completing forms, and communicating with supervisors and co-workers

• Administer and document language assessments and contribute to individual learning plans

• Create lesson plans, learning resources, and evaluation tools

• Maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment

Settlement and Resource Coordination

• Provide individualized support and referrals related to childcare, housing, transportation, benefits, and other settlement or stabilization needs

• Help participants create practical plans that support consistent attendance and transition into work

• Maintain accurate documentation and case notes

• Stay current on community resources, referral options, and eligibility criteria

• Identify recurring barriers and trends to support ongoing program improvement

Substitute Coverage and Workshop Facilitation

• Provide substitute coverage for REDI instructional roles as needed

• Participate in OFE’s facilitator pool and deliver employment development workshops across programs

• Adapt workshop delivery for language accessibility and diverse learning needs

Program Administration and Team Collaboration

• Enter data into OFE systems and reporting platforms as required

• Prepare classroom materials and maintain organized resources

• Collaborate with Employment Coaches, Employer Liaisons, and other team members regarding participant progress and support needs

• Participate in meetings, planning, and cross-team coordination

Qualifications

Education and Training

• Post-secondary education in a related field such as Adult Education, TESL/TEFL, Linguistics, Social Sciences, Human Services, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

• TESL/TEFL/TESOL credential required; TESL Canada training or recognition preferred

• Training and/or experience in trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice is an asset

Experience and Skills

• Demonstrated experience teaching adult EAL/ELL, ideally in workplace or sector-specific settings

• Strong curriculum development and lesson planning skills

• Ability to adapt instruction for low language levels and varied literacy or digital skill levels

• Experience supporting individuals facing barriers such as housing instability, childcare needs, transportation challenges, and system navigation

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust while maintaining professional boundaries

• Excellent organization, time management, documentation, and communication skills

• Strong working knowledge of current computer office applications and comfort with blended learning tools

This role provides an intensive 8–10 week foundational language training program designed to strengthen listening, speaking, reading, and writing in real-life situations connected to settling in Canada, navigating community systems, and preparing for employment and training pathways. The successful candidate will use the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB), Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA), and an applied teaching model that regularly integrates employment and education into language learning. Learners will be supported to build confidence, functional communication, and readiness to transition successfully into the OSES and English for Work stage at OFE.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver a CLB-aligned, PBLA-informed foundational language curriculum for learners at CLB 1–4

• Teach listening, speaking, reading, and writing through practical, real-life tasks related to settlement and employment preparation

• Use participant-friendly instructional strategies such as visual supports, modelling, repetition, role plays, simplified texts, and workplace/community scenarios

• Adapt instruction for diverse learner needs, including low literacy and interrupted formal education

• Integrate employment and education themes regularly into language learning, including workplace communication, job seeker vocabulary, training readiness, and self-advocacy

•  Implement PBLA approaches and maintain learner portfolios, assessments, and progress records

•  Provide supportive feedback and help learners set individualized goals

• Coordinate with OFE staff to support learner transition into the next stage of training

• Track attendance, participation, and progress, and maintain accurate documentation in OFE systems

• Prepare training materials and contribute to ongoing curriculum and program improvement

• Provide substitute coverage for other instructors/facilitators as needed

Qualifications

Education and Training

• Post-secondary education in a related field such as Adult Education, TESL/TEFL, Linguistics, Education, Social Sciences, Human Services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

• TESL Canada certification/recognition is required

• PBLA training/experience is an asset, with willingness to complete or refresh training as required

• Training and/or experience in trauma-informed, culturally responsive practice is an asset

• Strong digital literacy skills and comfort using common office applications and learning technologies

Experience and Competencies

• Demonstrated experience teaching adult EAL/ELL learners, ideally at lower CLB levels (1–4)

• Strong lesson planning and curriculum design skills, with the ability to differentiate instruction and scaffold for multilevel classes

• Ability to build trust quickly while maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality, and a respectful classroom culture

• Strong documentation, organization, and time-management skills

• Experience supporting learners facing complex barriers in a strengths-based way is an asset
